TCL QM8 TV showing cheering football player on green gradient CNET background
TCL/CNET

It's officially the holiday season. And if one of your favorite activities during this time is watching holiday movies with friends and family, you're going to need a nice TV. If you've been looking to upgrade your older or smaller TV, this is the perfect chance. The 65-inch TCL QM851 series, which is the follow-up to our our favorite TV of 2023 the QM8, is down to a record low of just $900. That saves you a whopping $600. And if you're looking to give someone a big gift this holiday season, what's better than a new TV?

We saw some excellent numbers in our TCL QM8 review, and though we haven't reviewed the QM851 yet, we expect similar things. The QM8 was great for people who didn't want an OLED, as the mini-LED didn't have any burn-in issues. We tested the 65-inch version of the QM8, and the mini-LED got quite bright. The picture quality was incredibly good. But if you want a bigger screen, the 75-inch QM851 is down from $2,000 to $1,298, while the ginormous 98-inch version is down to $3,923 from $6,000.

Though it comes from value brand TCL, the QM851 doesn't scrimp on features. It comes packed with all the things you will want from a midrange offering. That includes a true 120Hz refresh rate with HDMI 2.1, which means you can hook up an Xbox Series X or PlayStation 5 and get the full experience, along with VRR, or variable refresh rate.

Hey, did you know? CNET Deals texts are free, easy and save you money.

If you're looking for more affordable TVs, TCL has other models on sale for deep discounts. In the $400 range, there's the 55-inch QM7, the 65-inch Q6 and the 75-inch S5. Remember, a bigger size doesn't equal better picture quality. It's good to consider the contrast and brightness you get with the mini-LED tech found in the QM series of televisions over the QLED Q6 series and the standard LED S5 series.

In the $800 to $900 range, the 75-inch QM7 and 85-inch Q6 are on sale, while in the $1,000 to $4,000 range, TCL has the 98-inch Q6, QM7 and QM8 available.

If this TV is a little too big or not exactly what you're looking for, check out our roundup on the best TV deals you can take advantage of right now.

Why this deal matters

This TCL TV is now down to a record low price. Considering it's one of our favorite TVs, it's pretty highly rated and usually costs much more. It's $600 off the regular price, saving you tons of cash. The previous discount on this TV was during the October Prime Day event. But even then, it was still $998. You're saving almost $100 more than if you bought it during Prime Day.
